At present, the automobile industry is in a transformative phase where it is continually trying to improve the safety and performance of the vehicles.

Car manufacturers are trying to come up with newer innovations to make driving risk free and improve safety.

Honda Cars – Superior technology and models

Honda has selectively chosen its panel of experts, engineers, designers and technicians to bring in several futuristic technologies for the benefit of the masses.

Honda Advanced Technology is a result of Honda’s long-standing research and development program, which is focussed on creating new models for their automotive parts and related technologies.

With its time-honoured research, Honda has come up with highly efficient models for their products based on advanced automotive-related technology.

Honda has released new models such as Honda Type R, Honda Odyssey, Honda CR-V, Hondas BR-V with many advanced features such as the collision mitigation braking system (CMBS), lane departure warning (LDW), road departure mitigation (RDM), turbocharged cylinder engine and so on.

The I-VTEC engine used by Honda has gained immense recognition in the global market.

Honda car parts

1. Honda brake system

The braking system developed by Honda is a complete marvel which combines automotive ingenuity and innovative engineering.

Some of the important parts used by Honda braking system include:

When you press on the brake pedals, it forces the brake fluid through the hydraulic lines with great pressure squeezing the brake pads placed within the callipers against either side of the brake rotor or the inner portion of the brake drum until the wheels come to a stop.

Additionally, Honda brake pads are made out of special ceramic material that provides greater friction against the metal.

The brake rotors are specially ventilated” with tiny holes to further dissipate heat.

2. i-VTEC engine

This is a modified form of the VTEC engine of Honda. This engine works by controlling the timing of camshafts.

To ensure maximum fuel efficiency, the valves open only to a small extent while running at low speeds. For higher speeds, the valves open wider to achieve better performance.

The i-VTEC was first launched in the year 2003 as V6 3.0-litre i-VTEC engine which used a new variable cylinder management technology.

The main advantage is:

The new 1.8-litre engine was introduced in 2006, which could deliver an accelerated performance equivalent to a 2.0-litre engine.

Some of the improvements included:

Lesser engine weight: Since the overall raw materials used in building the engine frame is significantly reduced, the engine could gain better fuel efficiency.

2-bed catalytic convertor: This is placed after the exhaust manifold, to reduce the emission levels and maintain the precise air-fuel ratio.

Compact piston: Specially redesigned compact piston helps to:

Drive-by-wire technology: This system helps to achieve an increased precision over the throttle valve when the valve timing changes.

3. Integrated Motor Assist (IMA)

This forms a part of Honda’s hybrid car technology which uses a combination of gasoline and electric engine to achieve more effective fuel efficiency. This means a lower exhaust emission and higher fuel economy.

During acceleration, the IMA system uses the electric engine along with the main engine in providing power during acceleration.

This system was developed painstakingly over the years as a result of optimizing some pre-existing systems and technologies.

Some of the benefits of the IMA system include:

Reduction in energy displacement

By using the inbuilt electric motor, the IMA system assists the engine during a normal rpm.

As soon as the driver pushes down the accelerator for higher speed, the electric motor temporarily suspends its operation and the VTEC engine delivers the output power.

The primary purpose of the electric engine is to reduce the burden on the gasoline engine for better mileage and reduced fuel consumption.

Recovery of deceleration energy

During deceleration, energy is regenerated and optimized. The recovered power is used to supplement the output of the engine during acceleration.

Idle stop system

When the brakes are applied to the system, the Integrated Motor Assist shuts down the engine and utilizes the power previously conserved by the system.

Once the brakes are released, the electric motor restarts the engine. This is highly advantageous since it helps to save fuel and minimize the vibration on the car body.

Some of the Honda car models, which use this technology are :

4. Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA)

Honda introduced the VSA in 1997. This system uses a series of sensors to detect the loss of steering control. In case of severe imbalance, the system automatically reduces speed or applies the brake to regain stability.

The following are some important applications of VSA:

Controlling understeer

During the time of understeer, the front wheels lose traction, which will cause a drastic difference in speed between the left and front wheels.

If the car steers beyond the intended trajectory, the VSA springs into action reducing the engine power and braking the front wheel.

Controlling oversteer

During oversteer, the rotational speed of the rear wheel exceeds that of the front wheel. Therefore, chances are always high that the vehicle will spin out.

Now to prevent this, the VSA will instantaneously break the outer front wheel to create an outward movement thereby stabilizing the car.

Specially designed brake pads

Honda brake pads are extensively tested on all its models to withstand even the most intense braking situation in the worst weather conditions.

The brake pads are made out of hard and soft substances to reduce noise and prevent disk wear. These include specially formulated grease and high-insulating shims. They are designed to reduce vibration and dampen noise and provide superior quality and long life.

5. Timing Belts

The Honda timing belt is specifically designed to sync the function of piston and valves.

A broken timing belt will shut down the vehicle immediately and result in engine damage and extensive repairs.

Honda timing belts are custom designed to prevent belt slippage and to ensure exact factory fit. The belts are designed with durable materials which are long-lasting and crack resistant.

Make sure that you use the original belt designed by Honda to avoid any risk to your engine.

6. Cabin Air Filters

The air filters for the cabin are built specifically to ensure maximum performance and quality standard.

They are designed and built to trap many things such as pollen, dust, spores, smog, soot, smoke and other particles.

The cabin air filters ensure that your car interior is filled with fresh and clean air.

6.1 Two-stage supercharging air compressor

When compared to the previous one, the new turbo air compressor boosts the air supply pressure by 70%. The new compressor is almost 40% smaller than the air pump, designed and developed as a part of Honda’s goal of reducing the powertrain size.

Two separate superchargers enhance the turbo air pump.

Each one is placed at the end of the compressor motor’s axis to provide an extra high level of boost.

7. Replaceable Battery

The battery is the prime point of the electrical system. It powers your air conditioner, sound system, instrument panel, sensors, headlights, and electrical components inside the car.

Honda batteries are designed to last long and withstand adverse conditions. However, if you continually use your batteries in extreme heat conditions, the batteries wear down over time.

If you are using genuine Honda car batteries, you will get a three-year free replacement.

Why should you choose a Honda service centre for car part replacements?

Irrespective of how well-maintained your Honda car is, there will be a time when you need to get it serviced.

By choosing a service centre owned by Honda, you are guaranteed that all the parts used for replacement are 100% original. The technicians are well trained and have a thorough knowledge to deal with specific components.

Additionally, being equipped with the required handling equipment, the technicians can deliver excellent work output without jeopardizing other working components of the car.

Finally, all Honda owned service centres maintain a record of your service history which is available online and contains specific details on the repair or maintenance work done on your car.

Final Words

Each component  of  a Honda car is a result of years of design and development. The parts are created to perform specific tasks that are hard to achieve if replaced by parts from a different manufacturer.

If you’re looking for car part replacement, ensure that you choose only genuine ones manufactured by Honda for a  hassle-free drive.
