4. Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA)  

Honda introduced the VSA in 1997. This system uses a series of sensors to detect the loss of steering control. In case of severe imbalance, the system automatically reduces speed or applies the brake to regain stability.

The following are some important applications of VSA:

Controlling understeer 

During the time of understeer, the front wheels lose traction, which will cause a drastic difference in speed between the left and front wheels.

If the car steers beyond the intended trajectory, the VSA springs into action reducing the engine power and braking the front wheel.

Controlling oversteer

During oversteer, the rotational speed of the rear wheel exceeds that of the front wheel. Therefore, chances are always high that the vehicle will spin out.
