The maintenance cost of a Honda vehicle can vary considerably from below RM150 to a 4-digit bill since the repair and support costs vary depending on the model, age of the vehicle, mileage, location and even the service centre.
Newer vehicles between 2- 5 years are likely to cost less to maintain and repair per annum. With that said, the driving habits of an owner plays a part too. Bad driving habits place your car under unnecessary strain and increase wear and tear.
What is included in a Honda vehicle service contract?
A vehicle service contract is an extended car warranty after your vehicle’s standard manufacturer’s warranty has expired. It often covers costs of repairs including parts, labour and taxes, but with terms and conditions.
This extended warranty serves to protect you against unexpected, costly repairs after the manufacturer’s warranty stops. Having a service contract also ensures that your vehicle repairs are performed by Honda trained technicians using genuine Honda parts.
The typical inclusions for a Honda service contract are component coverage which involves the engine, transmission, the electronic components and electrical system, suspension, steering systems, brake service, air conditioning, heating and cooling systems, fuel injection, drive axle (front and rear), tyre rotation, seals, gaskets and fluids.
Further add-ons would offer more benefits but could be a waste of money if your vehicle is unlikely to require it.

So is it worth your money to have a service contract?
To determine that, find out exactly what repairs and services are covered by the service contract and research the common problems that your car model might face. Details such as cost, length, and coverage of the contract as well as the limitations and exclusions should be reviewed fully.
In general, the cost would depend on the level of coverage you require.

How do Honda services vary based on the car model?
A vehicle service is a series of maintenance procedures carried out at a set time interval or after the vehicle has travelled a certain distance. The cost will vary depending on the model and year of manufacture because both factors determine the complexity of work as well as the parts required as part of the service package.
Vehicle owners are advised to follow the suggested maintenance checkpoint in their car manual as it is essential for the health and well-being of their car.

How do the service costs vary based on the miles covered?
While it is natural to assume that maintenance cost will sky-rocket as your vehicle clocks more kilometres, it does not necessarily mean that is given for every single service visit. A typical Honda vehicle service schedule is once every 6 months and not every service would require a major part change. So unless your vehicle has hit a certain service milestone, the service charge is moderately constant.
Honda Accord service cost based on kilometres
Based on the Accord’s service catalogues, the Honda Accord 1.5TC 2020 model spiked only when it hit the 30,000 km mark, as 2 vital parts, the air cleaner element and the dust and pollen filter needed to be replaced. Otherwise, the service fee remains at a steady figure of about RM105.
A 2013 Honda Accord 2.0 model has a higher base price for maintenance, and as expected, spikes of maintenance price occur at the 30,000, 60,000, 80,000 and 100,000 km mark when change of parts are required. When compared to an older model, the Accord 2.0 2008 – 2013 cost more in maintenance although the base service price is lower. This is because service is performed more frequently at 5000 km intervals as opposed to a 2013 Accord 2.0, which is performed at 10,000 km intervals.
Honda BRV service cost based on kilometres

From the BRV service schedule, the charges go above RM300/service at the 40,000 km, 80,000 km mileage and more once the BRV hits over 100,000 km.

Honda Freed service cost based on kilometres
A new Freed won’t incur service cost before its first 15,000 km. Subsequent standard service cost remains reasonably below RM200, with distinct surge in prices only at every additional 10,000 km intervals once the vehicle passed its first 20,000 km. Key milestones to watch out for are at the 40,000 km, 80,000 km and 100,000 km marks whereby the maintenance cost goes beyond RM900.
CONCLUSION
In short, the service cost for a Honda vehicle varies based on the model, the number of years on the road, the mileage as well as the owner’s treatment of it.
Following the purchase of your new Honda, it is prudent to seek repairs through factory authorized dealers, who have firsthand knowledge of your vehicle, as well as being up to date on the latest service bulletins issued by the manufacturer.
Most new cars don’t require many repairs during the first few years and if your car does need repairs, they’re likely to be covered by the manufacturer’s warranty so the service fee is likely to be waived.
However, once the warranty ceases, you should consider an extended warranty to protect your car and safeguard yourself against costly repairs.
